Vital Global Surfaces has named two senior executives to lead its operations and commercial strategy, signaling a push for deeper industry expertise as the company expands its residential, commercial, and design markets.
Clark Cornelius has been appointed Chief Operations Officer of Vital Global Surfaces, overseeing supply chain, logistics, customer service, and distribution for both Happy Floors and Stone Source. His hiring follows a career at Florida Tile, where he held roles including Executive Vice President of Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and President & Chief Operating Officer. Throughout his tenure, Cornelius led initiatives across manufacturing, distribution, customer operations, and organizational development, ensuring alignment between production capabilities and market demands. At PGS, Cornelius will focus on improving service levels, streamlining efficiencies, and optimizing distribution to support growth, while also overseeing product and marketing initiatives to ensure enterprise-wide operational excellence.
David Raymond joins as Executive Vice President of Happy Floors, bringing experience from MSI (M S International), where he led sales, marketing, and product strategy. His role will center on commercial strategy, sales leadership, and customer partnerships, with a goal of accelerating brand expansion in surface solutions. Raymond’s career at MSI included guiding product innovation, brand development, and merchandising initiatives, as well as building high-performing teams and strengthening customer relationships—skills that will directly support Happy Floors’ go-to-market execution.
Balancing operations and revenue growth
These appointments follow a pattern of leadership investment at PGS, which has historically strengthened its operational and customer-focused capabilities. The company’s brands—Happy Floors and Stone Source—serve a broad market in tile, natural stone, and engineered surfaces, with a focus on design and service excellence. The hires align with broader industry trends, where manufacturers increasingly rely on operational and commercial veterans to handle supply chain challenges and competitive pressures, particularly as demand for sustainable and high-quality surface materials continues to rise.
Cornelius and Raymond’s backgrounds suggest a dual focus: Cornelius will address operational bottlenecks, while Raymond will drive revenue growth through customer relationships and market expansion. Their combined experience in manufacturing, distribution, brand development, and product innovation positions PGS to scale efficiently across residential and commercial sectors, while also refining product offerings to meet evolving consumer and contractor preferences.
Kory Bowling, CEO of Vital Global Surfaces, emphasized the strategic fit of the appointments. “Clark’s operational expertise and David’s commercial leadership strengthen two critical areas of our business,” he said. The statement reflects a deliberate effort to balance internal execution with external market positioning, ensuring that operational improvements directly support revenue growth and customer satisfaction.
Avoiding consolidation—building internal strength
The moves also show PGS’s commitment to leadership development, particularly as the surface materials industry faces ongoing shifts in demand and supply chain trends. While competitors often prioritize cost-cutting or mergers, PGS appears focused on internal capability-building, a contrast to the consolidation-heavy strategies seen in other building materials sectors. This approach allows the company to adapt to market changes without disrupting its core operations or customer relationships.
Both executives bring decades of industry experience, with Cornelius’ tenure at Florida Tile spanning manufacturing and customer operations, and Raymond’s work at MSI centered on product innovation and go-to-market strategies. Their appointments suggest a shift toward integrating operational rigor with commercial agility, two areas where PGS has historically lagged behind larger peers, particularly in aligning product development with market trends and customer feedback.
The company’s portfolio includes tile, natural stone, and engineered surfaces, catering to architects, contractors, and end consumers. The leadership changes may signal an effort to tighten coordination between Happy Floors and Stone Source, whose product lines sometimes overlap in commercial projects, ensuring seamless integration across both brands’ offerings while maintaining distinct market positioning for each.
No immediate financial targets or restructuring plans were announced alongside the appointments. The focus remains on operational and customer-facing improvements, with no indication of broader organizational changes, though the emphasis on leadership development suggests long-term strategic investments in the company’s growth trajectory.
