Nova Scotians are cautioned to be wary of rising home improvement scams

BBB Atlantic says one of the reasons home improvement scams have been on the rise is due to demand for home improvement services in the Nova Scotia market

Nova Scotians are being warned about a rising number of home improvement scams.

Last week, the Better Business Bureau released its annual Scam Tracker Risk Report, which showed home improvement frauds now top the list of Canada’s riskiest scams.

According to the report, home improvement scams reported by Canadians in 2022, moved up to the top ranking from the fourth spot in 2021.

Grand Forks City Council members briefed on Gate City Bank Home Improvement Partnership Loan Program

Mar. 6—GRAND FORKS — City Council members were briefed Monday by Gate City Bank on the Home Improvement Partnership Loan Program.

Andrew Conlon, a senior community development planner with the city, said the program provides funds for qualifying homeowners to make improvements to their properties. Some of the criteria to qualify for the program are that the assessed value of a house needs to be $275,000 or less and everything will need to be zoned appropriately, as well as other credit-related prerequisites. The interest rates for the program this year range from 3% to 3.5%

Home Depot Posts Mixed Q4 Earnings, Hikes Dividend By 10%, Forecasts Decline In FY23 EPS

  • Home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc (NYSE: HD) reported fourth-quarter FY22 sales growth of 0.3% year-on-year to $35.83 billion, marginally missing the consensus of $35.97 billion.

  • Customer transactions for the quarter fell 6%. Comparable sales decreased by 0.3%, and comparable sales in the US slipped 0.3%.

  • Gross profit rose 0.5% Y/Y to $11.9 billion. The operating margin was 13.3%, and operating income for the quarter fell 1.5% to $4.75 billion.

  • The operating expenses increased 1.9% Y/Y to $7.2 billion.

  • EPS of $3.30 beat the analyst consensus of $3.28.

  • The average ticket in Q4 was $90.05, a 5.8% growth, and sales
