It’s a truly idyllic place to vacation. But there were some interior design challenges to overcome before it became the perfect retreat, as designer Hayley English found out.

The homeowners, who have a young family, enlisted the interior designer’s help to create a better backdrop

Floor-to-ceiling kitchen storage has become more popular over the last five years, have we all grown taller? No, but you will need steps or a ladder to reach that uppermost shelf! So why, the change in cabinet design?

Do I order the plans online or from a plan book? Shall I use a designer to draw my plans? Sarah Paulson didn’t discover her talent for creating homes with what interior designer Amy Kehoe calls “sophisticated whimsy” until she was in her 40s. As a former New Yorker and an actress who has spent much of her adult life on set, buying and decorating a house wasn’t on her long to-do list. “It felt like too much responsibility. Only grown-ups did that, not me,” says the Emmy Award–winning actress, who stars in the upcoming horror thriller Dust. “I always wanted Manhattan life, an apartment with a doorman, if you were lucky. Owning a home has never held that allure.”
