Home improvement retailers have had a tough 2023, and their coming first-quarter earnings reports might not do much to help the stocks. The picture, however, could brighten as the year goes on, making some stocks worth considering.

HomeDepot

(ticker: HD) and Lowe’s (LOW) are slated to report first-quarter results one week apart, on May 16 and 23, respectively. Consensus calls for both companies’ per-share earnings to dip year over year. Analysts expect Home Depot to deliver earnings of $3.86 a share, down from $4.09 in the first quarter

Most homeowners are planning to remodel at some point down the road, but not everyone will get their money’s worth in improving home value.

Of all home improvement projects, the most popular are sparkling bathroom overhauls, according to newly released data from the Contractor Growth Network, followed by big-ticket kitchen and basement renovations.

In some cases, homeowners may get that money back when it’s time to sell, but more often, these home renovations rarely bring a great return.

Atlantic couple going to trial for alleged home improvement fraud

Jun. 7—LINESVILLE — A western Crawford County couple will go on trial for home improvement fraud for allegedly bilking a man out of more than $100,000 more than 18 months ago.

In January, the Conneaut Lake Regional Police Department charged Chad Eckenrode, 42, and Kristi L. McBride, 39, both of 3438 Maple Lane, Atlantic, with false statements for home improvement services, receiving advance payment for services and failing to perform work, theft by deception and deceptive business practices.

On Tuesday, Eckenrode and McBride waived their rights to preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge Adam Stallard of Linesville.
