Grand Forks City Council members briefed on Gate City Bank Home Improvement Partnership Loan Program

Mar. 6—GRAND FORKS — City Council members were briefed Monday by Gate City Bank on the Home Improvement Partnership Loan Program.

Andrew Conlon, a senior community development planner with the city, said the program provides funds for qualifying homeowners to make improvements to their properties. Some of the criteria to qualify for the program are that the assessed value of a house needs to be $275,000 or less and everything will need to be zoned appropriately, as well as other credit-related prerequisites. The interest rates for the program this year range from 3% to 3.5%

The house is one of two detached properties set in a modernist estate in Primrose Hill that primarily consists of painted brick courtyard houses and small terraces.

Amid inflation prices Americans turn to DIY home improvement projects

As high home prices and mortgage rates force many homeowners to stay put rather than trade-ups, a whopping 90% of homeowners are looking to make their existing living space more comfortable this year, according to a new survey.

But as inflation continues to drive up material costs, many are turning to DIY projects to save money.

For example, while the consumer-price index, a measure of inflation, moderated to 6.4% in January from a year earlier, the cost of floor coverings rose 13.1%, and the prices of tools, hardware and supplies went up by 11.8 %, according to data released earlier

24 Sussex: Half of Canadians oppose renovating homes

With 24 Sussex Drive closed and work to remove asbestos set to begin this spring, half of Canadians say they oppose renovating the aging home, according to a new poll.

However, the poll from the Angus Reid Institute shows that a plurality of Canadians—41 per cent—believe that spending an estimated $36-38 million to renovate the prime minister’s official residence is the best solution.

The question of what to do with the historic Ottawa home has taken on a new dimension now that the National Capital Commission has closed it down.
