Why ‘Renovation Island’ Fans Are “Getting Mad” After ‘Rock the Block’ Episode

It’s halfway through season 4 of Rock the Block, and some fans are getting impatient. Renovation Island stars Sarah and Bryan Baeumler are competing to add value to a home in Colorado, and after renovating the kitchen, living area, and master suite, they have come up short with the judges.

To be fair, the competition is steep! The Baeumlers are up against some HGTV heavy-hitters, like Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle (Luxe for Less), Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin (Farmhouse Fixer), and Page Turner and Mitch Glew (Fix My Flip). This week, teams

How to Build a Shelf with a Wood Gallery Rail

We’re in the midst of a little laundry room refresh and I’ve been slowly completing projects to update this space. We finished it almost 7 years ago and it’s one of the most used rooms in our home (after the kitchen). But now that we have 3 kiddos and my style has evolved it’s time for some changes! My most recent project was building a shelf with a wood gallery rail and I’m here to share all the details with you!

Alberta invests in Citadel Theater renovations

An iconic theater in the center of Alberta’s capital city is about to get a $4 million overhaul, thanks to an injection of provincial tax dollars.

Edmonton’s Citadel Theater is one of the largest in Canada. It first opened in 1965. The current building on 99 Street and 102 Avenue opened in 1976 and is just a short walk from city hall.

The provincial money will see new elevators, glazing windows and skylights, flooring and mechanical systems installed in the 47-year-old building.

“This funding is absolutely transformational for the Citadel Theatre!” executive director Sarah Pocklington wrote in a news release.

Sabonis hits the winning free throw, the Kings beat the Clippers 128-127

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Domantas Sabonis made two free throws with seven seconds left to cap a near-triple double in the Sacramento Kings’ 128-127 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.

“We found a way to steal that game,” Kings coach Mike Brown said. “We didn’t respond correctly every time and they took advantage of it. …Sabonis and Foxy, I talked about them making the All-Star game, they’re doing things that warrant All-NBA talk.”

Sabonis had 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to help the Kings win their fifth straight game.

How to Make a Pleated Lamp Shade

There’s no shortage of lamp shades at the thrift store and they’re usually super affordable, which makes them the perfect DIY project! I’ve been swooning over a pleated lamp shade for a while but they can cost quite a bit! I’m going to show you how to make your own for a fraction of the price.

How to Make a Pleated Lamp Shade

I found this little lamp base at the thrift store for $10 and couldn’t pass it up. It didn’t come with a shade so I purchased this tapered lamp shade online. For some reason when I bought it, it was only $25 and now

Kitchen Organization: Drawers Instead of Cabinets

The perfect kitchen needs two things: form and function. I wanted our kitchen not only to be beautiful but to function well for our family and lifestyle. When I asked my Instagram followers what they should have been for a kitchen renovation, one of the most common answers was drawers instead of cabinets. And that’s exactly what we did!

KITCHEN ORGANIZATION IDEAS: DRAWERS

For all our lower cabinetry and island cabinetry, we tried to incorporate as many drawers as possible. The main reason that drawers are the more popular choice is that they are easier to store things in. With

CHA building without heat to get $100 million renovation

Good afternoon, Chicago.

For seniors living in the Albany Terrace Apartments in Chicago’s South Lawndale neighborhood, the past week inside their building has been cold. A pipe burst and flooded the building’s auditorium and hallways, residents said, and the heat went out.

The Chicago Housing Authority says a $100 million renovation is scheduled for the 50-year-old building in January. But some are disappointed it had to get bad before it got better.

Here’s what else is happening today. And remember, for the latest breaking news in Chicago, visit chicagotribune.com/breaking and sign up to get our alerts on all your devices.
